#3 Miller High Life 500
1984 Race 26 Recap – Miller High Life 500 from Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, NC (October 7, 1984) – Bill Elliott, who arrived a firm contender at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 1982, but who has suffered several heartbreaking defeats at the 1.5-mile oval, put it all together and won the Miller High Life 500. The Dawsonville, GA driver, who has been described as looking like Huckleberry Finn, talking like Gomer Pyle, and driving like the dukes of Hazzard, led the final 60 laps to nail down his third career victory. Benny Parsons, who won the pole and grabbed most of the lap leader awards, finished 14.5 seconds behind Elliott and won $68,475. Elliott won only $52,633.
