Elliott Triumphs In Delaware 500

Bill Elliott held off Dale Earnhardt and Rusty Wallace by a little over a second today to win the Nascar Delaware 500 yesterday at Dover Downs International Speedway. Elliott, of Dawsonville, Ga., battled Earnhardt for most of the last 100 laps on the one-mile oval, edging him by 1.16 seconds to claim a first prize of $56,400. Elliott’s sixth victory of the season increased his lead over Earnhardt in the battle for the season driving title. With six races left, Elliott has 3,548 points, 127 ahead of Earnhardt and 139 more than Wallace.
